October Meeting Highlights

Wednesday, October 8, 2014 was the second meeting of the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild at the Fairport Baptist Home.
As a reminder, all dues need to be paid as soon as possible. Also, the next few sessions of Sew Days at South Perinton Church are 9/25, 11/15 and 12/13.
Committee Reports:
Charity – The first charity block are improv bloom blocks. They will be accepted at the November meeting as we would like to have this quilt donated by Christmas. The general tutorial for making the blocks can be found here and the additional instructions are: To make the blocks look like flowers please use appropriate colors and, if possible, start with a dark center and get lighter as you work out, or vice versa. When you get to roughly 9″-10″ please switch to green so there is at least 1″ of green all the way around your bloom. We would like the blocks to be 12.5″ unfinished. Thank you to everyone who handed in blocks already and we hope to collect enough at the next meeting to make a good sized quilt.
Here are some examples that members have been making.

Challenge – As a reminder the ‘black, white and one bright’ challenge is due at the February meeting if you want to participate. Sue J. announced that our second challenge is to turn to page 19 in any magazine (non-quilt related) and make something that is some how inspired by something on that page; a picture, shape, color, etc. This is not due until the June meeting – be sure to bring the magazine so we can see your inspiration.
Shop-Hop – Jill started the sign ups for our road trip/shop hop. It is scheduled for Sunday 11/16 – we will be meeting at Eastview Mall at 9am. We will be going to Quilty Pleasures in Geneva, Patchwork Plus in Marcellus, lunch in Skaneateles, and the Schweinfurth exhibit.
RMQG “mini QuiltCon” – Patty is still working on dates, more info to come.
UFO – We signed up for our 1-3 UFOs for this year. We were allowed to choose which months we want our UFOs to be due and we can potentially sign up for more after the new year. Some people chose to have a UFO buddy for extra motivation. We also got pins with beads from Andrea in lieu of the postcards from last year.
Program –  Halloween postcard swap with Ithaca: you should have received an email from Gretchen if you signed up for this.

Next month’s theme is small gifts for the holidays – please bring in your ideas and examples to share.

In searching the web, I found notes from your October 8, 2014 meeting. The blue and gray quilt caught my attention. Is it possible to find out the pattern/block that was used to make it???

Thank you so much for your help.
